Communication from the City Manager and Director of Community Development with a Request to APPROVE the Allocation of COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT (CDBG) FUNDS for the Rehabilitation of LOGAN PARK and MORTON SQUARE PARK, in the Combined Amount of $875,000.00.

BACKGROUND: 

 After a successful partnership on the Trewyn Park project, the Peoria Park District is looking to make several improvements to Logan and Morton Parks. These include the addition of a new playground, four new swings, a new shelter, and new accessible sidewalks at Logan Park and a new structure, fence, and site amenities at Morton Park.

 

The Community Development Department will provide a combined $875,000 in CDBG funds to complete both projects. The CDBG funds will cover the entirety of the project.

 

The attached timeline, concept map, and proposed budget offer additional details.

 

FINANCIAL IMPACT:   $875,000 in CDBG funds will be allocated to these projects.

 

NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS:  Public hearing and public comment periods are held per HUD grant requirements each year. Additionally, the Peoria Park District will hold public comment periods specifically for these projects.

                     

IMPACT IF APPROVED: Construction will begin

 

IMPACT IF DENIED:  Funding for this project will not be awarded, and an alternative will have to be identified.
