Communication from the City Manager and the Community Development Director with a Request to Approve a FAÇADE IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM Grant for 1032-1034 S. WESTERN AVENUE, in the Amount of $3,900.00. (District 1)

BACKGROUND: As a part of the revitalization of the Southern Gateway, Council approved a Façade Improvement program which provides a grant of no more than $5,000 per property for improvements to properties within that area. The Program is intended to encourage owners and business tenants of existing properties to restore or renovate their buildings, in order to improve the area's physical character and enhance the aesthetics of the commercial environment.
To receive this grant, applicants must meet all City requirements including approval from City Council, make the improvements, and submit receipts for reimbursement of 50% of eligible expenditures in an amount not to exceed $5,000.
Pierson Mattress, Inc. has requested a façade improvement grant for the property at 1032-1034 S Western Ave. The improvement will consist of repainting the existing signage on the building.
Mr. Pierson attended a One Stop Shop meeting to ensure the project meets City regulations. The Façade Review Committee did not have any comments on the project.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: If approved, the City will reimburse the property owner for 50% of the project, $3,900.00, from funding available in the Southern Gateway Façade Improvement CIP project E14003 and the property at 1032-1034 S Western Ave. will receive funding as previously outlined.
NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS: No neighborhoods were contacted regarding the project.
IMPACT IF APPROVED: Pierson Mattress, Inc. will have the funding needed to proceed and the sign will be repainted. This will assist with revitalization efforts in the Southern Gateway.
IMPACT IF DENIED: If this request is denied, Pierson Mattress, Inc. would not receive the funding for the project and funding may not be available for the mural.
