Title

Communication from the City Manager and Director of Public Works with a Request to ADOPT an ORDINANCE for a PUBLIC IMPROVEMENT BY SPECIAL ASSESSMENT: SIDEWALK INSTALLATION along the South Side of WEST GILES LANE (North Mount Hawley Road to East of Patton Lane) [Council District 3]

Body

BACKGROUND:  There appears on the agenda an Ordinance by The Board of Local Improvements for the following public improvement:

SIDEWALK INSTALLATION ALONG THE SOUTH SIDE OF W GILES LANE (N MT HAWLEY ROAD TO EAST OF PATTON LANE)

On August 9, 2017, the Board of Local Improvements approved a resolution authorizing the proposed improvement through Special Assessment. Improvements to W Giles Lane include a sidewalk installation along the south side of the roadway. Petitions were received and accepted by the Board of Local Improvements on July 13, 2017, with positive petitions for 80.1% of the frontage on W Giles Lane.

This sidewalk installation will provide connectivity between the Rock Island Trail, residential properties, and sidewalks on Mt Hawley Rd that have recently been completed (2015 and 2011) to Kellar Primary School. Furthermore, W Giles Lane is an overly narrow roadway with no existing sidewalks. This sidewalk installation will provide safe pedestrian mobility.

Net length of the Improvement: 802 feet or 0.152 miles

Assessment: Assessment will be determined by the Superintendent of Special Assessments for the City of Peoria, subsequent to the passage of the Ordinance and subject to possible later corrections.
