Body

BACKGROUND: 

To facilitate the free flow of traffic and ensure safety to the motoring and pedestrian public, the State (IDOT), is desirous of replacing existing video detention systems at various locations around the City and by performing all work necessary to complete the improvement in accordance with the approved plans and specifications. The City is desirous of said improvements in that same will be of immediate benefit to the motoring and pedestrian public and be permanent in nature.

 

IDOT has agreed to make the surveys, prepare plans and specifications, receive bids and award the contract, furnish engineering inspection during construction and cause the improvement to be built in accordance with plans, specifications and contract.

 

Per existing agreement, the City provides partial funding for joint City/State owned traffic signals. All costs are estimated. The City will be responsible for actual costs of the constructed items, except for traffic signal amounts, which may total up to 125% of the estimated amount.

 

The joint City and State-owned traffic signals to be improved by this project are as follows:

The total cost of IDOT’s project is estimated at $523,481. State funding will provide $471,190 (90.01%). The remaining $52,291 (9.99%) is the City’s responsibility.

 

FINANCIAL IMPACT:  Funds for the City share of traffic signal improvements of $52,291 are available in the 2020 Community Investment Plan project T2005 account number 4083001-523652.

 

NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS:  This project will ensure that the traffic signals will work properly and minimize maintenance.

                     

IMPACT IF APPROVED: The IDOT project can proceed on schedule with all planned components included.

 

IMPACT IF DENIED:  The IDOT project may be delayed, or the project may be awarded without including the necessary, City participating work.
