Communication from the City Manager and Fire Chief with a Request to APPROVE the PURCHASE of three (3) Thermal Imaging Cameras from DINGES FIRE COMPANY, in the Amount of $23,985.00.

BACKGROUND: The 2020 Community Investment Plan provides for the purchase of Thermal Imaging Cameras for the Peoria Fire Department. Thermal Imaging Cameras are life-saving devices that are used to detect hidden “hot spots” in walls, ceilings, and other confined areas. These cameras allow firefighters to detect and extinguish fires before they become large and more dangerous. They also allow firefighters to find citizens in buildings by detecting them through their body heat.
In August of 2019, the Purchasing Division solicited bids (#31-19) for Thermal Imaging Cameras and Dinges Fire Company was the successful bidder. There have been no changes in the terms, conditions or pricing so we will be using the 2019 bid for this purchase.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The Community Investment Plan provides for the purchase of the Thermal Imaging Cameras from Account number 4012201-515499 (F2004).
NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS: N/A
IMPACT IF APPROVED: The Fire Department will be equipped with reliable and updated Thermal Imaging Cameras that are crucial to the safety of firefighters and citizens. These cameras allow firefighters to essentially “see through smoke” and behind walls to quickly extinguish fires and aid in rescues.
IMPACT IF DENIED: The current Thermal Imaging Cameras are aging and in frequent need of repairs. The safety of firefighters and citizens will be compromised due to unreliable and non-working cameras.
