BACKGROUND: Kim's Beauty Supply has requested a fa?ade improvement grant for the property at 1718 N Wisconsin Ave. The proposed improvement includes the installation of a new sign and a new door totaling $5,540. In addition, an investment by LISC of $9,806.73 is underway to paint the building and place a mural on the north side of the building. A total investment of $15,376.73 would be made to the fa?ade of which $5,000 would be reimbursed.
Mr. Robert Chung, owner of Kim's Beauty Supply met with staff to ensure the project meets City regulations. The Fa?ade Review Committee did not have any comments on the project.
Fa?ade grants are provided on the condition that: a) funds are available, b) proposed improvements are eligible, c) the project is approved by City Council, d) improvements are completed according to an agreement, and e) receipts are verified for reimbursement.
Council has approved a Fa?ade Improvement Program to assist with the revitalization of commercial buildings and neighborhoods. Grants reimbursements for 50% of eligible project cost up to $5,000 per property are made available for fa?ade improvements. The Program is intended to encourage owners and business tenants of existing properties to restore or renovate their buildings, in order to improve the area's physical character and enhance the aesthetics of the commercial environment.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: If approved, the City will reimburse 50% of eligible project cost up to $5,000 and will utilize funds from the Fa?ade Improvement CIP project E15007.
NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS: No neighborhood groups were contacted regarding the project.
