Title
Communication from the City Manager and the Corporation Counsel with a Request to ADOPT an ORDINANCE Amending CHAPTER 3, Article II, Section 52(6) of the CODE of the City of Peoria Authorizing the Purchase and Use of a 15-DAY LIQUOR LICENSE.
Body
BACKGROUND: The Peoria Mustangs are the only USAH sanctioned Tier III junior hockey team in the State of Illinois. The team has approximately 11 to 12 home games per season at the Owens Center in Peoria. While Owens Center does not possess a liquor license, the Mustangs have purchased individual temporary liquor licenses in order to sell liquor at their home games. The propose ordinance would allow the Mustangs, and other athletic groups who wish to offer liquor for purchase during their seasonal home games, the opportunity to purchase a 15-day license that allows up to three Saturday night events to occur within that same licensing period.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: While the amount received by the City will be reduced from $1800 to $900, this reduced fee will facilitate the perpetuation of this not-for-profit athletic organization for use.
NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS: None
IMPACT IF APPROVED: There would be more flexibility in issuing liquor licenses for seasonal events.
IMPACT IF DENIED: Applicants would be required to use multiple licenses throughout the season.
ALTERNATIVES: None
