Communication from the City Manager and the Chief of Police with a Request to APPROVE the PURCHASE of Sixty (60) GX440 Airlink Verizon 4-G WIRELESS MODEMS for Use in Police Vehicles from CDS Office Technologies, in the Amount of $41,280.00, from Approved Capital Improvement Plan Funds.

Body
BACKGROUND:
In 2013, the Peoria Police Department began updating squad car wireless connections with 24 Sierra Wireless 4-G modems. This move was initiated to keep up-to-date with current technology that was now available in the area. 4-G technology is now necessary to facilitate the numerous software platforms that currently must be used by officers in the field. Such programs include I-WIN communications, Crash Reporting, Police Reporting, Silent Dispatching, GPS tracking, AFIX fingerprint identifications, and ShotSpotter technology, all of which are accessed via the squad car laptop computer and supporting 4-G modems. 4-G wireless technology is now the standard for cellular communications; with the purchase of these wireless modems and subsequent installation into the fleet, the police department's fleet will be updated with the necessary cellular technology needed for day to day operations.

The 4-G modems come with a 5 year warranty.

CDS holds the statewide bid for accessories associated with Panasonic Toughbooks and I-WIN communication, CMS8291640.

FINANCIAL IMPACT: Funding for this purchase would come from Account #401-8401-551.39-99 CB1252
