Communication from the City Manager and Director of Public Works with a Request to APPROVE the PURCHASE of the Properties Located at 4300 SW ADAMS STREET and 4206 SW ADAMS STREET (Parcel Identification Nos. 18-19-181-001, 18-19-181-014), Peoria, Illinois, in the Amount of $76,000.00 for the SOUTHERN GATEWAY CORRIDOR IMPROVEMENT PROJECT. (Council District 1)

BACKGROUND: In an attempt to create a more attractive and welcoming corridor to the southern entry of the City, Public Works staff has arranged for the design and installation of a decorative sign, which will include LED and city-colored lighting indicating “WELCOME TO PEORIA.”
In working with IDOT, staff determined the structure is unable to be placed in the ROW due to the intended design not meeting IDOT standards of being a breakaway sign. Accordingly, staff is requesting the purchase of two parcels to place the sign outside of the ROW.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The purchase price for the properties is Seventy-Six Thousand Dollars ($76,000). These fees will be paid at closing from the Southern Gateway Corridor Improvement Project D2105 funds.
NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS: N/A
IMPACT IF APPROVED: Beautification of the Southern Gateway Corridor.
IMPACT IF DENIED: The City would not purchase the properties and the project would not be constructed.
ALTERNATIVES: Installing a standard government sign in the public right of way.
