APPOINTMENT by Mayor Rita Ali of Replacement of AT-LARGE COUNCIL MEMBER to Fill the Vacancy in that Position.

BACKGROUND:
Sections 65 ILCS 5/5-2-18.7 and 65 ILCS 5/5-2-12(g) of the Illinois Municipal Code provide that if a vacancy occurs in the office of Councilmember, the remaining members of the Council, within 60 days after the vacancy occurs, shall fill the vacancy by appointment of some person to the office for the balance of the unexpired term or until the vacancy is fulfilled by interim election under Section 3.1-10-50, and until the successor is elected and has qualified. The City Council is to appoint a person to serve the vacancy created in the position of At-Large Council Member by the election of former Council Member (now Mayor) Rita Ali. It is my recommendation that the Council Appoint Dr. Kiran K. Velpula of 11337 N. Columbine Drive, Dunlap, Illinois to serve as an At-Large Council Member until the vacancy is filled by interim election under Section 65 ILCS 5/3.1-10-50
