Communication from the City Manager and the Chief of Police with a Request to ADOPT an ORDINANCE Amending Article V, Section 30 of the CODE of the City of Peoria Relating to TOWING OF PRIVATE VEHICLES - DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF TOW OPERATORS ON LIST.
Body
BACKGROUND: The Police Department received a request to conduct a comparison as to what area municipalities are paying for tows. Detective Brian Terry, the detective that handles the tows, reviewed the Ordinance and realized that the City of Peoria’s current Tow Ordinance was last revised in 2011 and that there were many corrections that needed to be made. Detective Terry revised the Tow Ordinance to bring the City of Peoria in compliance with current State law. This revised Ordinance will also allow the Police Department to monitor tow companies and ensure they are providing the best service to the citizens of Peoria.
Police, Legal and Administration staff met with Tow Operators after the first reading and have made the attached revisions to the Ordinance and all parties are in agreement.
