BACKGROUND: The City of Peoria Police Department is regularly tasked with identifying unknown solid and liquid chemicals and explosives. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team responds to these types of events to determine the makeup of unknow solid and liquid chemicals and explosives. Until these materials are tested, it unknown if they are safe to handle or if they pose a threat to officers and civilians in the area. The Gemini device can allow officers to determine the explosive make-up of a material or to determine if the material contains illicit drugs.
The TruNarc Unlimited Model (with Type H Solution Kit) provides officers with the ability to quickly identify suspected narcotics in the field while reducing the possibility of an officer being exposed to the substance. This device identifies more than 530 of the highest priority illicit and abused narcotics through Raman spectroscopy. This device allows officers to scan directly through plastic or glass, allowing for a reduction in exposure and the preservation of evidence.
