Communication from the City Manager and the Fire Chief with a Request to Approve a SOLE SOURCE PURCHASE for Four (4) Automatic External Defibrillator's (AEDs) from PHYSIO CONTROL, in the Amount of $101,199.40.

BACKGROUND: The AED's currently in use are six (6) years old and are in need of replacement. We have chosen to use a sole-source purchase due to the six (6) year partnership with Advanced Medical Transport (AMT). Purchasing the same AED's that AMT uses provides the caregivers with a seamless transfer of patient care and also allows for an interchangeable supply with AMT thus getting these supplies at the same cost as AMT. This public/private partnership has raised the level of pre-hospital emergency care to the City's highest level in our history.
The AED's will be placed in the Advanced Life Support (ALS) fire machines thus providing the care that our citizens and community have come to expect from their ALS providers.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The cost for the four (4) AED's is $101,199.40. Funding is available in account #401-8401-551.54-99 (Project CB1416) of the 2014 Community Investment Plan (CIP) budget.
NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS: N/A
IMPACT IF APPROVED: State-of-the-art equipment will be available on all Peoria Fire Department advanced life support response units.
IMPACT IF DENIED: The quality of pre-hospital emergency care for those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest or heart related ailments may be severely impacted as the current units are aging.
