Body

BACKGROUND:  NFPA (National Fire Protection Agency) and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) require firefighters to wear SCBA tanks when entering atmospheres dangerous to life and health. The 2021 Community Investment Plan provides for the purchase of SCBA units and accessories. These SCBA units are necessary to comply with the 2018 NFPA standards. The units being replaced are over fifteen (15) years old and in constant need of repair. Air cylinders are on a rotation for replacement and must be taken out of service as their useful life is reached.

 

The Purchasing Division issued seven (7) bid requests and received one (1) response.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:  The cost of the project is $74,545. Funds are provided in Capital Account #401-2201-505499 Project F2113.

IMPACT IF APPROVED:  Replacement of outdated SCBA equipment with updated technology that is NFPA compliant.

 

IMPACT IF DENIED:  Continued use of outdated equipment that is not compliant and in constant need of repair. Reduced number of air cylinders available as these have reached their useful life.
