Communication from the City Manager and Corporation Counsel with a Request to ADOPT an ORDINANCE Ascertaining the PREVAILING RATE OF WAGE for Laborers, Workmen and Mechanics Employed at Public Works in the City of Peoria, Illinois.

BACKGROUND: State law requires that all persons working on Public Works contracts for the City be paid the prevailing wage for such work in the City. The law also requires the City to establish what those prevailing wages are once a year. The City must then either conduct a study of its own or adopt the findings of the Department of Labor for Peoria County. The attached Ordinance adopts the Department of Labor findings in June 2015, for June 2016 since the Department of Labor has not adopted new findings since June 2015. If the Department of Labor does hereafter adopt new findings for 2016, this ordinance will adopt those new findings and incorporate the new prevailing wages set by the Department of Labor.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: All Public Works contracts for the City will be subject to the prevailing wage law.
