Communication from the City Manager and Fire Chief with a Request to APPROVE a SOLE-SOURCE PURCHASE of a GPS-Based Emergency Vehicle Traffic Signal Preemption System for Six (6) Intersections, in the Amount of $35,277.00, from TRAFFIC CONTROL CORPORTATION.
Body
BACKGROUND: The Peoria Fire Department is currently using several traffic signal preemptions systems to allow firefighters to transverse safely through major intersections in the City. Traffic Control Corporation is the sales agent for the #M Opticom Priority Control System. The consideration to be had for the traffic signals along the Monroe corridor for Central House responding companies (Engine 1 and Truck 1) into station 8 and station 4 territories. This would affect six (6) intersections:
1. Monroe and Spalding
2. Monroe and Fayette
3. Monroe and Hamilton
4. Monroe and Main
5. Monroe and Fulton
6. Monroe and Kumpf

FINANCIAL IMPACT: Funding for this project is from the 2021 CIP Budget for Traffic Signal Preemption Systems.

NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS: N/A

IMPACT IF APPROVED: Firefighter and citizen safety will be enhanced. Studies have shown traffic preemption can improve response times and reduce accidents at controlled intersections.

IMPACT IF DENIED: Firefighters and citizen safety at intersections would not be improved as firefighters attempt to get the attention of the motoring public and gain the right-of-way at intersections.
