Body
BACKGROUND: Public Works proposes to continue the annual seal-coating contract to preserve roads in good condition in order to prolong their lifespan and delay costly major reconstruction projects. Seal-coating is a surface treatment used to extend the life of pavement in which the pavement is sprayed with asphalt, which is immediately covered with aggregate and rolled. Seal coats are primarily used to seal a pavement with non-load-associated cracks and to improve surface friction. Public Works prepared the contract specifications and advertised for bids. On May 31, 2016, bids were received and opened, with one bidder submitting. There are not many contractors in this area that perform this type of specialty work.
