Title

Communication from the City Manager and the Community Development Director with a Request to ADOPT an ORDINANCE Adding the Definitions of Cultivated, Native Plants, and Noxious Weeds, and Amending the Definition of Weeds in CHAPTER 13 of the City of Peoria CODE.

Body

BACKGROUND:  The City of Peoria is proposing to add the definitions of cultivated, native plants and noxious weeds, and to amend the definition of weeds in order to promote the use of rain gardens in the city.

Rain gardens reduce rain runoff by allowing storm water to soak into the ground rather than flowing into storm drains and surface waters which causes erosion, water pollution, flooding, and diminished groundwater.
