Title

Communication from the City Manager and Director of Public Works with a Request to APPROVE a MOTOR FUEL TAX RESOLUTION, in the Amount of $500,000.00 for the Construction Contract of the ALTA LANE & RADNOR ROAD ROUNDABOUT PROJECT.

Body

BACKGROUND: The Alta Lane/Radnor Road Roundabout was let on Friday, April 28, 2017 at an IDOT letting in Springfield.  The low bidder was Stark Excavating, Inc. in the amount of $1,948,936 with the engineer’s estimate for the project being $2,780,214. The original budget as approved by Council had this project being funded with MFT dollars, State Grant dollars, and City Capital dollars; however, with the bids coming in so aggressive, there is an opportunity to fund this project with the State Grant and State MFT dollars.  The attached MFT Resolution will cover payment for the City’s portion of the Construction Contract.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:  These State Motor Fuel Tax funds will come from Project M17001 (Alta-Radnor).

NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS:  This project will allow better access to this portion of the City.

IMPACT IF APPROVED: The roundabout will receive its State Motor Fuel Tax allotment to allow for construction activities per the IDOT agreements.

IMPACT IF DENIED:  The Council would need to provide further direction to Staff. Construction of this project may be delayed in 2017.

ALTERNATIVES:  As Council directs.
