BACKGROUND:
The City of Peoria and Peoria County jointly fund the CodeRED Emergency Notification System. The system provides emergency notification to the public. This addendum will allow for the IPAWS portal to be accessed as part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) public notification system. This portal will allow critical messages to be delivered to the public through the Wireless Emergency Alert System on enabled wireless phones
FINANCIAL IMPACT: Funding for this purchase will be provided from the Operating Budget of the Emergency Communications Center, account 101-1811-505-35-04. Peoria County will reimburse the City of Peoria $ 1,250.
NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS: N/A
IMPACT IF APPROVED: The public will receive critical warnings from the City of Peoria through the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) System on their enabled wireless phones.
IMPACT IF DENIED: Less reliable means of notifying the public of critical warnings would have to be used.
