Title
Communication from the City Manager and Community Development Director with a Request to Receive and File a Report on the Proposed BOSCH SUPERMARKET PARK PROJECT (DISTRICT 1)
Body
BACKGROUND: A group of local non-profits have been working together to create an urban produce garden that would provide fresh produce to residents of Peoria.  This concept has been developed in other cities, and with several changes to the Zoning Ordinance over the past year, is a permitted use in Peoria.

Beyond the provision of fresh produce to the community, the program would have a substantial educational and job training component.  The concept is entirely scalable and transferable to other areas in the city.

At this point, the organization members are identifying potential funding sources to enable the project to launch.  Some funding has been committed, as has in-kind gifts.  A project summary with budget is attached to this communication.  City staff is researching the potential of using CDBG funds to assist with the launch of the project.  If City funds are identified as contributing to the project, a separate funding request will come back to the City Council.
