Title

Communication from the City Manager and Fire Chief with a Request to ADOPT a RESOLUTION Approving the Tri-County Multi-Jurisdictional Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan as the OFFICIAL HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN of the City of Peoria.

Body

BACKGROUND:  Under the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000, the United Stated Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requires that local jurisdictions have in plan a FEMA-approved Hazard Mitigation Plan in order to apply and receive Federal mitigation grant funds.

The City of Peoria is subject to natural hazards including severe thunderstorms, severe winter storms, floods, tornadoes, and drought, among others, that pose risks to public health and property and the City of Peoria desires to prepare and mitigate for such hazards.

The City of Peoria is part of a tri-county group (Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford) that used grant funds to work with the Tri-County Planning Commission to hire a consultant to update this hazard mitigation plan. The Tri-County Multi-Jurisdictional Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan must be updated every five (5) years, with this current plan to expire October of 2024.
