BACKGROUND: The City of Peoria submitted an application to the Illinois Housing Development Authority for an Emergency Repair Program grant on July 22, 2013 and has been informed that it has been awarded a $217,350.00 grant. Up to $10,350 may be used for administrative costs and up to $27,000 for project delivery. This is a two year grant. The grant is designed to provide up to $20,000 as a 5 year forgivable loan at 0% interest for making health and safety repairs on homes owned and occupied by low income households, with a priority given to seniors and the disabled. Community Development Neighborhood Division staff will administer the grant.
There are no City funds involved in this grant.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The City of Peoria will have $217,350 to assist low income homeowners in making needed health and safety repairs. The grant will be administered by existing staff.
NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS: None
IMPACT IF APPROVED: The City will use this grant for repairs to homes owned and occupied by lower income residents.
IMPACT IF DENIED: The City will not be able to provide financial assistance to lower income residents for the repair of their homes using these grant funds.
