Body
BACKGROUND: NFPA (National Fire Protection Agency) and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) require firefighters to wear turnout gear (personal protective equipment) when entering atmospheres dangerous to life and health.

In December 2017, City Council approved a firefighting equipment wear test of two gear manufacturers (that met all initial specifications) to determine the best gear for the Fire Department's needs. After the wear test, it was determined that Globe GXLJ fit the needs of the department best.

In June 2018, a bid was issued which included the Globe hear as well as fire helmets and fire gloves. There were nine (9) bids solicited and on June 14, 2018, bids from two (2) vendors were opened. The summary is below:

MES Dinges Fire
Fire Gear $1,983.00 Alternate Item Bid
Glove GXLJ

Cairns 1044 $245.00 $249.00
Helmet

Dragon Slayer $59.00 $58.00
Gloves

Dinges' alternate item bid was Cairns gear that did not meet specifications.
