Title
Communication from the City Manager and the Fire Chief with a Request to APPROVE to Enter into a Federal Excess Equipment Cooperative AGREEMENT with the ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES for a Donation of a Telescoping Fork Truck to the Peoria Fire Department.

Body
BACKGROUND: The Peoria Fire Department Training Academy will use this telescoping fork truck for many crucial tasks, such as moving vehicles for vehicle extrication classes, moving supplies in and out of the burn tower, and lifting materials to the second floor of the burn tower. The fork truck currently in use at the Fire Training Academy is approximately 20+ years old and has a limited life span, therefore employee manpower is often used to accomplish these tasks.

The ability to use a telescoping fork truck will eliminate the use for employee manpower, which in turn will prevent having a fire machine out of service for the time needed as well as eliminating duty related injuries from performing these tasks. The cost to replace the current fork truck would be in the $150,000 range.

FINANCIAL IMPACT: The cost to replace the current fork truck would be a minimum of $150,000. The elimination of possible duty related injuries will also cut the cost of overtime for the Peoria Fire Department.

NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS: N/A

IMPACT IF APPROVED: The Peoria Fire Training Academy will have the ability to accomplish much needed tasks for training purposes in a more timely manner as well as the cost savings in accepting this donation.

IMPACT IF DENIED: The Peoria Fire Department will need to purchase a new fork truck at a cost of approximately $150,000, or continue to use employee manpower increasing costs for the department.
