Communication from the City Manager and Director of Community Development with a Request to APPROVE Funding for the VIOLENCE PREVENTION PROGRAM, in the Amount of $1,416,581.31.

BACKGROUND: On August 29, 2022, City Council approved the application and program guidelines for Violence Prevention funding.
The second round of the application was released on April 10th and applications were due on May 12th. Twenty-six (26) completed applications were received requesting a total of over $6.5 million.
The applications were reviewed and scored by the CDBG Public Services Advisory Commission. The scores received were averaged to create an average score on the attached file. Starting with the highest score, applications were provided full funding until the $1,200,000 available was allocated. Applications falling under Workforce Training were scored separately and the highest scoring applications were provided full funding until the $300,000 available was allocated. No partial funding will be awarded.
If approved, agreements will be created for the timeframe of July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024.

Greater Peoria Family YMCA: Teen REACH - This program will focus on at-risk youth, ages 10 to 15, with the goal of providing opportunities that empower and encourage youth to achieve positive growth and development, improve expectations and capacities for future success, and avoid and/or reduce risk-taking behavior. This is achieved by addressing 6 key foundational elements including: improving educational performance, life skill education, parental/guardian involvement, recreation, sports, cultural and artistic activities, mentorship, and service-learning opportunities.
