Communication from the City Manager and Director of Public Works with a Request to Concur with the Recommendation of Staff to set a PUBLIC HEARING before the City Council on TUESDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2019, at 6:00 P.M. Regarding CITY-WIDE SEWER RATE ADJUSTMENTS.

BACKGROUND:  The current sewer rates charged by the City of Peoria were implemented on May 1, 2019. As indicated in the 2020-2021 City budget discussions, sewer rates were reviewed and proposed rate increases of 7% are planned to occur on May 1, 2020 and May 1, 2021 to coincide with Greater Peoria Sanitary District (GPSD) fiscal year and billing cycles.

 

City Municipal Code requires that the rate adjustments be discussed at a Public Hearing (Section 31-78).

 

FINANCIAL IMPACT:  Sewer Rate increases of 7% are proposed to meet the anticipated budget expenses.

 

NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS:  Well-maintained sewers are a benefit to all neighborhoods.

                     

IMPACT IF APPROVED: The Public Hearing will be scheduled.

 

IMPACT IF DENIED:  The Public Hearing will not be scheduled.
