BACKGROUND:  Caterpillar Inc. has requested the Vacation of the Alley bounded by Main Street, Fulton Street, Adams Street and Washington Street and as shown on Exhibits 1A, 1B and 2.  This vacation is necessary to tighten the legal documents for this block, as Caterpillar presently owns all adjacent parcels.
 
FINANCIAL IMPACT:  Relieves the financial burden to the City to maintain, repair and replace the vacated rights-of-way.
 
NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS:   No known concerns.  All adjacent parcels are owned by Caterpillar Inc.
      
IMPACT IF APPROVED:  Caterpillar, Inc. will take ownership of the alley for its use and assume all future maintenance.
 
IMPACT IF DENIED:   City will continue to maintain the alley and Caterpillar will not be able to utilize the land.
