Communication from the City Manager and the Chief Information Officer for the PURCHASE OF TWO HIGH AVAILABILITY SERVERS from ACE COMPUTERS to replace the EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS CENTER DISPATCH SERVER IN THE AMOUNT OF $35,814.00 ($17,907.00 EACH).

BACKGROUND: The City of Peoria CAD system serves the City of Peoria (Police and Fire), Peoria County Sheriff, Bartonville, Peoria Heights, Chillicothe, AMT and seventeen local volunteer fire departments. The equipment (server) that the CAD software runs on was installed in 2005 and does not have redundant capabilities. One of the goals listed in the Information Systems Strategic Plan for 2014 is to identify critical systems and design redundant solutions for that system. The CAD system has been identified as one of our most critical systems and the perfect candidate for redundancy.
Server redundancy is utilized when the availability of the server is of paramount importance. Deploying redundant capabilities will minimize downtime when a server fails. The most effective redundant solution requires not only 2 identical physical servers but also redundant hard drives each with the same data. The primary server is constantly monitored by a secondary server ready to automatically take over within seconds in case the primary server fails.
