Title

Communication from the City Manager and Chief Innovation Officer with a Request for a POLICY SESSION on the INNOVATION TEAM’S NEXT PRIORITY AREA, with a Request for Direction.

Body

The Innovation Team has been working on the current priority area of leveraging the combined sewer overflow solution for multiple community benefits. Now that the Innovation Team has launched its first portfolio of initiatives and work is underway on these projects, the team must begin the selection process and data collection for the next priority area. Preliminary discussions have taken place over the last several months about potential areas of focus. The Innovation Team is now seeking direction from Council to ensure that the next priority has support from City leadership. A priority is:

- A demonstrable problem that is experience by residents in Peoria, and for which clear and impactful solutions have not been found;

- A problem that City leadership is committed to solving; and

- An issue where the City has leverage and can make a real impact that residents will feel.

The Innovation Team must present the proposed priority area to the Bloomberg Foundation for approval. In doing so, the following questions must be addressed:

- What is the priority that the City would like to focus on next?

- What problems in your City did you consider before landing on this potential priority? Why did you rule the others out?

- How does this problem manifest in your City? Please include any available data that describes the scale of the problem today or relevant trends.

- If successful in solving this problem, would the impact be significant for City residents? How do you know?

- Is this a priority for your City leadership? Is it part of the public agenda?

- Does the City have leverage over this issue? Where and How?
