Communication from the City Manager and the Director of Public Works with Request to ADOPT an ORDINANCE Amending the City of Peoria 2017 AMENDED ANNUAL BUDGET Utilizing $75,000.00 in Warehouse District TIF Funds to Renovate Office Space at 813 SW WASHINGTON STREET for the PeoriaCorps.

BACKGROUND:  Council has approved Public Works moving forward with the creation of the PeoriaCorps which will work with at-risk young adults in the community between the ages of 18-24 to teach green infrastructure maintenance and other life skills.  The Dries Lane facility where Public Works is located does not currently have adequate office space or class room space to facilitate this program.  The City purchased 813 SW Washington last year as an opportunity acquisition in the Warehouse District.

 

Staff proposes activating this space on the ground floor to be utilized as office space and classroom space.  This is an ideal location as it is close to green infrastructure and can modified with internal staff to create a location to house the new PeoriaCorps.

 

FINANCIAL IMPACT:  $75,000 will be utilized from Warehouse District TIF Funds.

IMPACT IF DENIED:  Staff will not move forward with construction.

 

ALTERNATIVES:  Temporary office trailers could be rented and placed at Dries Lane.
