Title

Communication from the City Manager and Director of Public Works with a Request to ADOPT an ORDINANCE Amending CHAPTER 13 of the CODE of the City of Peoria Pertaining to the Increase of the REFUSE FEE.

Body

BACKGROUND:  As part of the 2018-2019 Budget, Staff is recommending a rate adjustment to the refuse fee from $14/month for residential units to $17/month in 2018, $18 in 2019, $19 in 2020, and $20 in 2021.  The rate would be adjusted for stacked condominiums from $6/month to $7.50/month in 2018, $8/month in 2019, $8.50/month in 2020, and $9/month in 2021.

This action will allow the City to cover the cost of provided solid waste service to the City of Peoria residents and will begin to refund the General Fund the approximate $6 million the solid waste fund has borrowed.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:  Increasing the refuse fee from $14 to $17 will generate $1.4 million in additional revenue, annually.
