Communication from Council Member Akeson that all Public Commission/Committees and Public Hearings that Meet in City Hall Room #400 be VIDEO RECORDED, LIVE STREAMED, and ARCHIVED.

BACKGROUND: The City of Peoria has the capacity to video record, live stream and archive all meetings held in City Hall Room 400, yet currently only Peoria City Council meetings are recorded, live streamed and archived. Council Member Akeson requests that all public commissions, committees and public hearings happening in City Hall, Room 400, use the Granicus system so that their meetings can be video recorded, live streamed and archived.
If approved this request will provide more transparency and convenience for the public. There is nominal cost associated with utilizing Granicus for this purpose and only a slight amount of extra staff effort. Staff will need to create a Granicus event prior to the meeting and the chairperson/hearing officer will need to learn how to run the microphone control unit. The staff member assigned to taking minutes/notes/records will be required to turn on the system before each meeting. In time, staff should create an agenda that allows for Granicus time stamping, but it is not necessary to start this initiative. Corporation Counsel envisions no legal issues with this request.
