Communication from the City Manager and Director of Public Works with a Request for the Following:

 

A.                     ACCEPT the Lowest Responsive Bid and APPROVE a CONTRACT with M.R. MASON INC. for Tuck-Pointing and Exterior Maintenance of FIRE STATION NO. 4, 2711 SW JEFFERSON, in the Amount of $99,985.00. (Council District 1)

 

B.                     ADOPT an ORDINANCE Amending the City of Peoria 2018-2019 BIENNIAL BUDGET Relating to Use of SOUTH VILLAGE TIF Fund Balance and the Reduction in Expenditures in the Capital Fund, in the Amount of $150,000.00, for Capital Improvements to Fire Station No. 4 Originally Budgeted in the Capital Fund.  (NOTE:  This requires a 2/3 vote of those voting.)

BACKGROUND:  As part of the continuing maintenance of the City of Peoria’s buildings asset, repair or replacement of components is periodically required.  This contract provides for the masonry tuck pointing of Fire Station #4 and unit pricing for additional brick repair of those buildings. This will include the tuck-pointing of the entire building, replacing the lintels over the doors and windows, and replacing the windows on the lower level (apparatus bay). 

 

Seven vendors were solicited for bids and bids were received and opened May 1, 2018, with three bidders responding as follows:

FINANCIAL IMPACT:  Funding for these repairs was originally budgeted out of the General Fund in the approved Community Investment Plan but Staff is recommending utilizing South Village TIF funds for these improvements.

 

NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS:  N/A

                     

IMPACT IF APPROVED: Buildings asset will continue to be maintained in a safe, serviceable manner.

 

IMPACT IF DENIED:  The buildings asset will continue to deteriorate to the point of reconstruction rather than maintenance.  Costs of repairs will increase, with further deterioration.
