Title

Communication from the City Manager and Director of Public Works with a Request for the Following:

A.                     APPROVE a CONTRACT with REHRIG PACIFIC COMPANY for a Garbage Cart Audit and Cart Management Software, in an Amount Not to Exceed $240,675.00; and,

Body

BACKGROUND:  As part of the Solid Waste Collection negotiations, the City of Peoria will be taking over the management of the residential garbage carts.  Currently, there is not an accurate cart inventory identifying which houses have carts and which do not.  Upon approval, Rehrig will inventory the carts City-Wide and place Radio Frequency Identification tags (RFID) on them so that we can manage the existing inventory and any future inventory.  This inventory will give the City a more accurate residential house count so that we are able to realign payment for solid waste collection, as it would give us a new baseline with which to begin this program in-house.

Currently, there is no inventory of the 95-Gallon City of Peoria Garbage Carts to replace damaged or missing carts.  This purchase will allow Public Works to have an inventory on hand of (702) 95-Gallon Garbage Carts in order to provide residents with new carts if theirs are damaged or missing.  These carts will come with a 10-year warranty for full replacement.

Rehrig Pacific Company is the vendor from which PDC purchased the City’s residential garbage carts, so this will allow the cart designs to be consistent.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:  The funds for this will come from the solid waste fund.
