ACTION REQUESTED: 

Title

Communication from the City Manager and Director of Community Development with a Recommendation from the Planning and Zoning Commission and Staff to ADOPT an ORDINANCE Amending APPENDIX A, the Unified Development Code, Relating to HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE PARKING.

BACKGROUND: 

Last year, the State of IL adopted a new Illinois Accessibility Code.  This proposed text amendment to the City’s Code includes revisions to align with the State’s new code.  The proposed changes include:

 

                     Two parking spaces may share a common access aisle.  Diagonal parking spaces may not share.

                     Specifications for signage.

                     Three diagrams to illustrate parking layout.

 

The Planning & Zoning Commission found that the request met the Findings of Fact and voted 5 to 0 to approve the text amendment.

IMPACT IF APPROVED:  The Unified Development Code will be amended to align with the State’s new accessibility code.

 

IMPACT IF DENIED:  The Unified Development Code will not be amended and will remain as currently written.
