Title

Communication from the City Manager and the Corporation Counsel with a Request to ADOPT an ORDINANCE Creating a Separate FAIR HOUSING COMMISSION and a FAIR EMPLOYMENT COMMISSION by Amending CHAPTER 17 of the CODE of the City of Peoria.

Body

BACKGROUND:  Currently the City utilizes a city commission known as the Fair Employment and Housing Commission to enforce the provisions of Chapter 17 of the Code in an effort to eradicate unlawful discrimination in employment and housing practices. However since employment is a distinct concept from housing there is a need to create distinct commissions. This proposed Amendment will create two commissions, one for the eradication of housing discrimination and the other for the eradication of employment discrimination. The proposed Amendment is attached hereto as Exhibit A. There are no other substantive changes in the Chapter.
