Title

Communication from the City Manager and the Fire Chief with a Request to Concur with the Recommendation from the Fire Prevention Division to ADOPT an ORDINANCE Amending CHAPTER 11, Fire Prevention Codes, Relating to ADOPTION OF CODES/RECORDS.

Body

BACKGROUND:  The amendment to this ordinance is to ensure that life safety systems’ tests, inspections, and maintenance reports are submitted to The Compliance Engine, a web-based inspection reporting system, by the service providers. This report submittal process was implemented January of 2018 and allows the fire department inspectors to track and monitor life safety systems such as fire alarm systems, fire sprinkler systems, fire pumps, etc.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:  N/A

NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS:  N/A

IMPACT IF APPROVED: Fire department inspectors can monitor that life safety systems are being tested and maintained in compliance with the fire code, possibly decreasing the probability of systems failing in the event of a fire incident.

IMPACT IF DENIED:   Service providers that install life safety systems will not be required to show testing or maintenance reports; therefore possibly resulting in failing systems during a fire incident.
