Body
BACKGROUND: Personnel assigned to the Special Investigations Division (SID) conduct investigations into the illegal sale of narcotics that typically lead to search warrants being conducted at those locations.

This vehicle will be utilized to transport personnel and essential equipment to locations where these search warrants are to be served. It will also be used by officers of the Special Response Team to respond to high risk situations requiring specially trained and equipped officers.

This van features a high roof allowing for officers to stand inside when necessary and in preparation to deploy from the van. It also has dual sliding doors for multiple exit points from the vehicle providing a tactical advantage. The vehicle is also equipped with rear heat and air to provide comfort to officers who may be required to remain in the van for extended periods while wearing ballistic protection and helmets.

This vehicle will replace a 1999 Ford Van that was recently removed from service. In addition to being 20 years old, the van was cramped when officers and equipment were loaded into the vehicle, it did not allow for officers to stand, and there was no heat or air conditioning in the rear portion of the vehicle.

FINANCIAL IMPACT: Utilizing the State of Illinois Joint Purchasing Contract PSD#4018492. Funding for this vehicle will be provided from Federal Asset Forfeiture Funds in account PDAFF 101-2180-561-...
