Communication from the City Manager with a Request to RECEIVE and FILE a REPORT BACK on the Adoption of a BUSINESS REGISTRY with the City of Peoria.

Body
BACKGROUND: At the Tuesday, May 12th, 2020 Council Meeting, Councilman Montelongo asked staff to bring back information on creating a business registry/business license for the City of Peoria. Staff is currently recommending the City create and implement a required business registry program. The Business Registry Program would be begin in July of 2020, but the City would not begin enforcing the registry until 2021. An online form would be created that allows businesses to voluntarily register their business with the City of Peoria for 2020. This would allow us to have access to their contact information so we could push information related to City programs and other resources that become available. This would require the least amount of staff time and allow us to create a list of businesses in the City of Peoria. Businesses would encouraged to register through multiple outreach channels. Outreach and administration of the program would be handled by the Economic Development Department.

Staff will develop the Business Registry Program ordinance and bring it back to Council to go into effect by July 1, 2020.
