Communication from Councilman Tim Riggenbach with a Request for City Council to APPROVE a RESOLUTION Calling on the STATE OF ILLINOIS to IMPLEMENT a UTILITY SHUT OFF MORATORIUM.

 

Body

BACKGROUND:  The State of Illinois and the Illinois Commerce Commission announced on March 19th, 2021 that utility companies in the State of Illinois could resume shutting off utilities of customers who were behind on payment starting March 31st, 2021.

 

This resolution calls on the Governor of Illinois to use his emergency powers to reinstate the moratorium until the State of Illinois releases additional financial assistant to customers and the pandemic improves in the State of Illinois.

 

FINANCIAL IMPACT:  NA

 

NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS:  Utility shut-offs create an unsafe and unhealthy situation for residents in the City of Peoria.

                     

IMPACT IF APPROVED: Resolution from the City Council will be sent to the Illinois State Governor’s Office.

 

IMPACT IF DENIED:  No resolution will be sent.
