Communication from the City Manager with a Request to CONCUR to Allow the Transfer of the GEORGE WASHINGTON BUST from FULTON PLAZA to the PEORIA RIVERFRONT MUSEUM.
Body
BACKGROUND:

In 1998, George Washington University dedicated a four-foot-tall bust of George Washington to the City of Peoria on occasion of the Creve Coeur Club's 100th anniversary Washington Day banquet. The bust was crafted by renowned sculptor Avard Fairbanks and previously stood on George Washington University's campus in Washington, D.C. The bust has been displayed in Fulton Plaza since its donation.

Regrettably, the pedestal base of the sculpture was recently damaged in a motor vehicle collision. The City has discussed a loan agreement with the Peoria Riverfront Museum to relocate the bust to the Museum's premises for display. The Museum would arrange and pay for the costs of the removal and transportation of the sculpture. The City would then remove the damaged pedestal and restore the site. The Museum would receive the bust on an initial five-year loan term which may be renewed by agreement of the City and Museum. The City would retain ownership of the bust and could reclaim it at any time upon notification of termination of the loan agreement.

NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS: None.

IMPACT IF APPROVED: The City would enter into a loan agreement with the Peoria Riverfront Museum to transfer the George Washington bust from Fulton Plaza to the Museum's premises for display.

IMPACT IF DENIED: The City would not enter into the loan agreement with the Peoria Riverfront Museum and would have to make alternative arrangements for the repair and restoration of the sculpture's damaged pedestal.
