Communication from the City Manager and Director of Public Works with a Request to APPROVE the Sole Source PURCHASE for Maintenance and Component Repairs for the VACTOR JET TRUCK, from the Manufacturer, COE EQUIPMENT, in the Amount not to Exceed $24,966.51. (All Council Districts)

BACKGROUND:
Public Works utilizes specialized vactor jet truck to clean sewers, remove sand, stones, bottles, trash, grease, sludge, roots and other debris from and storm drainpipes, manholes, inlets and vaults. Because of the abrasive's nature of this material, the components, the metal seals and valving are wearing out.
If components are not replaced, the capital cost of purchasing a new vactor jet truck is estimated to be $650,000.00 to $715,000.00 less the approximate trade value of $100,000 for the current unit.
The city staff recommends the truck be sent to the manufacture, COE Equipment, for component replacement and maintenance repairs. COE Equipment provided a quote for the necessary components in the amount of $24,966.51.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: This would come out of account 8013022-503306 for Sewer Heavy Construction Equipment Repairs and would not affect our budget.
NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS: N/A
IMPACT IF APPROVED: If approved this would extend the life of the vactor components for another 8 to 10 years.
IMPACT IF DENIED: The City will need to purchase a new Vactor Truck. The cost for a new Vactor truck would cost $650,000 to $715,000 to replace minus approximate trade value of $100,000 for the current unit.
ALTERNATIVES: The City will need to purchase a new Vactor Truck.
