Title
Communication from the City Manager and Chief of Police with a Request to APPROVE the PURCHASE of a Quick Response Vehicle, in the Amount of $138,651.00, through a Cooperative Purchase from MACQUEEN EMERGENCY, for Peoria Police Department SWAT Responses and Co-Medical Responses.

Body
BACKGROUND: Intense situations sometimes require quick medical assistance to deescalate high stress situations. Most often, paramedics are staged a significant distance away. By utilizing the Quick Response vehicle, this would allow all SWAT and all co-medical responses to have equipment readily available to be used by tactical paramedics and tactical physicians. By purchasing this unit, responders are able to assess patients to determine if transport needs are required, maintaining the safety of all involved. This unit will provide immediate evacuation from a hot zone and also provide a medical safe haven for patient evaluation.

FINANCIAL IMPACT: The cost of the unit is $138,651.00 and will be purchased using funds from the Co-Response unit grant.

NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS: N/A

IMPACT IF APPROVED: The Quick Response vehicle will assist and aide in addressing medical type situations in SWAT situations, also providing extended safety to our first responders.

IMPACT IF DENIED: The Police will not have this important piece of equipment and will operate as normal in conjunction with the Fire Department. This vehicle will provide our Tactical paramedics with a proper vehicle for storage of tactical equipment. Currently, the Tac Medics use an old vehicle that is not properly outfitted for these level of emergencies.
